The sun on the skin, the wind in your hair, and a romantic view of the horizon. There isn’t much that can beat the wonder of a beach wedding, but how exactly do you go about planning it? After all, a wedding on the beach is different from a wedding in a church. But if you follow these tips, your beach wedding will be the wedding of your dreams:
Dress Accordingly
With the sand, wind, and the sun right over head, you and your guests will need to dress accordingly in order to stay comfortable. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Sunglasses: The sun is harsher along the water, so make sure everyone has access to a pair of sunglasses or a wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun’s glare out of their eyes.
- Sandals: Pumps and high heels don’t do well in the sand. Consider having yourself and your guests wear formal sandals, or at least have an extra pair of sandals they can change into once the reception starts.
- Lightweight Fabric: Beach weddings can get humid and hot, so don’t weigh yourself down with heavy fabrics or stuffy suits. Instead, opt for loose, lightweight clothes. An added bonus is that these lightweight fabrics look fantastic along the windy shore.
Consider the Time of Day
The time of day is especially important for beach weddings. Afternoons are often hot, crowded, and humid—not the ideal time to hold an intimate wedding ceremony. As such, it’s better to hold your ceremony during the morning or the evenings. Not only will the temperatures be cooler, but you will also get a romantic view of the sunrise or sunset.
Keep Your Guests Comfortable
Beach weddings, like most outdoor weddings, require a few more steps to keep your guests comfortable. Here are some simple things you can do that your guests are sure to appreciate:
- Keep refreshments constantly available
- Provide items such as sunscreen, bug spray, beach blankets, or parasols
- Keep baby powder handy to help guests get the sand off of their feet
- If guests want to go barefoot, have a place for them to store their shoes
- Provide either an outdoor, shaded area or an indoor area for guests to cool off
